Rafael Lang was born in Rio de Janeiro, the birthplace of jiu-jitsu, and started on the mats at age five practicing Judo. In 1995 he started in Jiu Jitsu and never stopped. Black belt since 2006 by Masters Vinicius Campelo and Otávio Couto, Rafael was Head Coach of AKXE BJJ Rio for many years.
In his last competitions, Lang was a silver medalist at the Pan American 2019 and champion at the Houston Open 2019. He was also a No-gi gold medalist at the IBJJF London open 2018 , IBJJF Atlanta Open 2018, London Open 2016 and silver at the London Open Gi 2018 ,Dallas Open 2018 and 2017, just few years after a serious motorcycle accident where he heard from doctors that he would not return to his old performance and would hardly return to a championship. He believes martial arts have a strong way to overcoming and he proves this by him self.
In 2008, Rafael was Pan-American champion, Mineirinho and State of Rio de Janeiro. In 2009 he was 3rd in the World Jiu-Jitsu League, State champion of Rio, Australian and State champion of Quensland - Australia. In 2010 he won the State of Rio de Janeiro, was a champion of the Australian League, Pan Pacific champion (IBJJF) and many others.
Rafael has a lot of experience in classes for children and adults all ages as well as in personal defense training. Acted in training for teams of airlines, such as Varig and Gol, also taught classes for the Australian Army and Civil Police special forces of Rio de Janeiro - CORE. He has been a consultant for Garra BJJ Brisbane, Australia and has held seminars in Australia, Germany, Austria, Norway, California, Dallas, Michigan and others. Lang also is required as a referee in many importants IBJJF internacional competitions.
